Afkomstig van Brussel in de Zuidelijke Nederlanden zal hij van oorsprong Rooms Katholiek zijn geweest en is hij bij zijn (voorgenomen) huwelijk kennelijk overgegaan naar de Hervormde Kerk van Ridderkerk.
