    Uit dit artikel:
    Precies 75 jaar geleden werden vader Jan en zoon Dorus van Es samen met andere gevangenen in Kamp Vught gefusilleerd. Enkele dagen eerder zijn ze in hun woonplaats gearresteerd. Dat ging zo:
    Om te voorkomen dat hij opgepakt zou worden voor dwangarbeid, net als zijn broer Nies, zat Dorus ondergedoken. Maar als hij op zondagmiddag naar het voetballen staat te kijken langs de lijn aan de Horst, wordt hij door Landwachters in de
    kraag gegrepen. André Couwenberg, de vriend van zijn zus Bertha, is bij hem en weet te ontkomen. Hij rent naar huis om vader Jan van Es te waarschuwen. Die aarzelt geen moment, pakt zijn schoenmakersmes en spoedt zich naar het sportpark, waar zijn
    vrouw Cato dan ook al is aange komen. Er ontstaat een vechtpartij om Dorus te bevrijden en daarbij raakt een Landwachter gewond door een schot uit zijn eigen jachtgeweer. Uiteindelijk worden vader en zoon overmees terd en afgevoerd. Ze worden vastgezet, maar krijgen van hun Kaatsheuvelse bewakers de gelegenheid om te ontsnappen, want hun celdeur gaat niet op slot. Vader Jan durft het kennelijk toch niet aan en besluit om te blijven zitten in de hoop snel weer vrij te komen.

    Dat blijkt een fatale misrekening die beiden met de dood moeten bekopen. Want ze worden overgebracht naar Mariënhof in Vught en vervolgens naar de fusilladeplaats van het kamp. Daar worden ze, zonder enige vorm van proces, voor het executiepeloton
    terechtgesteld. Een vergeldingsactie van de Duitsers voor de moord van het verzet op een agent van de Sicherheitsdienst. Zo komt er een gruwelijk einde aan het leven van Jan (46) en Dorus (22) van Es.
