Door de verslechterde gezinsomstandigheden gedwongen werden de 3 jongste dochters geplaatst op een internaat. Zij verbleven daar tot ze de leeftijd dat ze konden werken. Die tijd brachten ze door in Den Haag. Als bewoonsters maakte twee van hen mee dat het tehuis waarin zij woonden , de Anna Stichting, getroffen werd door het bombardement in het begin van de tweede wereldoorlog. Zij overleefden de ramp, die helaas veel slachtoffers heeft veroorzaakt..
