    Links naast de plek waar de houten palen hebben gestaan, werd in 1946 een muurtje opgericht met daarop de tekst 'Opdat wij nooit vergeten'.

    In 1980 werd door verschillende organisaties uit het oud-verzet, met steun van de Rotaryclub in Bunnik, het monument gerestaureerd en omgeven door een hekwerk, afkomstig van de voormalige Sypesteyn-kazerne in Utrecht.

    In 1981 werd de Stichting Herdenkingsmonument Rhijnauwen opgericht. De stichting heeft 51 namen kunnen achterhalen van op het fort gefusilleerde personen. Nabestaanden hebben zeven gedenkstenen geplaatst met de 51 namen. Onder hen ook leden van de Nederlands-Belgische verzetsgroep 'Chaperon Rouge' (Roodkapje), ook bekend als de groep Erkens. Zij werden op 9 oktober 1943 gefusilleerd.
