Gerrit Symonsz Vlaming, die zoals een akte vermeldde, de wettige zoon was van Symon Cornelisz Rebel, is genoemd naar zijn overgrootvader Gerrit Hendriksz Vlaming, de vader van zijn grootmoeder Neel Gerrits. Deze Gerrit Symonsz Vlaming, die in dezelfde tijd leefde als zijn naamgenoot (ged 3 apr 1667) werd gereformeerd predikant te De Koog Texel. Zijn zoon Symon Gerritsz Vlaming was predikant in Valkoog en had een dochter, gehuwd met Bommel, waarvan de kinderen Vlaming-Bommel werden genoemd, een naam die later verdween.
