Notes about George Washington Barricklow


George Washington Barricklow, 4th son of Frederick and Nancy Dugan Barricklow, was born August 7, 1837, the fifth child of Frederick and Nancy. Their fourth child, Margaret Ann born 1835, wa rather sickly and died in 1863, 28 years of age. She was buried in Nottingham Cemetery, near the center of the burial ground. George attended rural school until 17 years of age. Then he attended Franklin College., New Athens, Ohio, for 3 years. In 1869 he married Ruth Gregg. When his father's estate was settled, George got the 190 acre farm, Section 22, Athens Township. George and Ruth had 2 children, Presley and Bertha. Presley died at the age of 17. Bertha outlived her father who died in 1903. Ruth was 90 years old when she died, 1934. The 136 acres and the 190 acres farms went to George's brother John Dugan Barricklow, his only living heir.

The George Barricklow family were buried in the Cadiz Cemetery.
