Uit “Haarlemsche bijdragen: bouwstoffen voor de geschiedenis van het bisdom Haarlem, Volumes 58-59”, pp 278-281, Drukkery van het St. Jacobs-Godshuis, 1940:
“Pastoor Jacobus Willibrordus Potze was geboren te Zaandam. Hij was in 1737 tot priester gewijd, werd daarna kapelaan te Poeldijk, van 1742 tot 1749 pastoor op Texel en was „ab anno 1749 ad 21-1-1789 missionaris in Heemskerk.” Voor zijnekomst kreeg het schuur-kerkje nog een goede beurt, want den 12de februari 1749 wed aan Hendrik Bakker f. 51,13 betaald “voor het verven van de kerk en het speelhuis.” Het schijnt dat hij niet dadelijk pastoor Scheepen is opgevolgd, want den14de Augustus 1749 werd „aan den heer van Zijl voor het bedienen van de kerk f. 44" betaald. Kort daarna heeft hij zich hier gevestigd, want den 8ste September 1749 werd aan den baljuw f. 50 betaald „voor het aankomen van den l'eer Posse.Den 3ien October schreef hij zijn eerste doopsel in. Enkele dagen later, den 12"1 October , moest het kerkbestuur weer de beurs openen en werd „aan den heer Posse voor zijn akte in den Haag f. 15" betaald.1) De Statie telde toen tweehonderdzes en dertig communicanten.

Pastoor Potze overleed, den 21en Januari 1789 “grandaevus et plenus dierum”. Zoowel in 1758 door Molinari als door Ghilini in 1775 werd hij genoemd” “vir honestissimus et eruditus theologus, exterioribus tamen donis destitutus."1) Voor hetluiden der klok „over den Heer Jacobus Willibrordus Potze, Rooms Priester" ... “

Op 2 juni 1746 vraagt hij als pastoor te Den Burg de Brusselse nuntius voor zeelieden, vissers en havenabeiders dispensatie in de vasten- en onthoudingswet
