Maartje en haar echtgenoot betrekken na hun huwelijk een boerderij in de Wijde Wormer, Noorderweg 110. Hun twee dochters worden daar in de Wijde Wormer geboren.
Wegens ziekte van Klaas moesten zij na enige jaren de boerderij verlaten en verhuisden naar Landsmeer. Daar overleed hij op 40 jarige leeftijd. Midden in de tijd van crisis in de wereld met zeer grote werkloosheid en armoede.
Maartje dreef na de dood van haar man gedurende enige jaren een manufacturen zaak, maar dit werd geen succes, hierna werkte zij als huishoudster op diverse adressen in Waterland. Zij trouwde in 1944 de weduwnaar Jan Houtman, deze woonde teOverlee k 9 waar Jan een boerderijtje met enige koeien bezat. Na zijn overlijden op, 07-09-1962, verhuisde Maartje naar Monnickendam en woonde ruim 10 jaar in het oude en later in het nieuwe bejaardenhuis Swaensborch, daar overleed zij. Opeigen verzoe k is ze begraven in het graf van haar eerste man, Klaas de Boer op de Algemene Begraafplaats te Landsmeer, dochter van Gerrit KOMEN, landman te Purmerland, en Guurtje TAAMS.
