'De mogelijke kindermoord (red: moord op hun dochter Christina Aretz wegens een buitenechtelijke zwangerschap door Johannes Derix) werd het gezin Arets zwaar aangerekend. Michaelis (Michiel) Arets en zijn zoon Jacobus Servatius (Servaas) werden eerst ‘half’ gewurgd en verbrand, onthoofd en de lichaamsdelen op een rad tentoongesteld.
Van de enige vrouw, Maria (Mergen) Arets, werd eerst een hand met een bijl afgehakt, daarna werd ze gewurgd aan de paal, onthoofd en nadien haar lichaam op een rad geplaatst. Zij kreeg de symbolische radbraking, wat voor bendeleiders [gereserveerd was] en slechts zelden bij vrouwen werd toegepast.
Zoon Jacobus Servatius (Servaas) werd ook eerst de hand afgehakt. Schoonzoon Dirckx (Derix), die als hoofdverantwoordelijke van de moord werd gezien, werd de rechterhand verbrand, met een gloeiende tang een tepel afgeknepen, dan de rechterhand levend afgehakt, onthoofd, geradbraakt en de vier lichaamsdelen ‘rondom aan het rad gehangen’. Dit was een vierendeling maar niet in de traditionele betekenis dat de vier ledematen werden uitgerukt door paarden.'
