Notes about Gijske Slottje

Notitie Gijske was evenals haar zuster Baafje, die met broer Gerrit getrouwd was, dochter van Keimpe Fokke Slottje en Baafje Langmuur. Keimpe vervoerde o.a. mest van Friesland naar Lisse. In die tijd was er nog geen kunstmest. Tijdens de vaart leerde moeder Baafje haar kinderen lezen,schrijven en rekenen. Alle zoons kregen met behulp van vader Keimpke een eigen schip en die gingen voornamelijk varen naar Duitsland en Frankrijk
Robertus (Bert) was in de Bollenstreek bekend als een uitmuntend vakman en heeft enige malen op tentoonstellingen een prijs gewonnen. Hij was een goedaardig man, die altijd in zijn broeikas bezig was om nieuwe soorten bollen te kweken. Hij was o.a. penningmeester v.d. Chr. School aan de Schoolstraat. De conciërge Scholten, kwam elke week bij de vrouw van Bert, Gijske, zijn loon halen.
Bert fietse veel. De fiets had aan de linkerkant bij het achterwiel een uitsteeksel, een z.g. “step”. Hij begon snel te lopen, stapte met zijn linkervoet op de step en slingerde het rechterbeen over het zadel en daar ging meneer. In huis was niet hij maar zijn vrouw Gijske de baas.
