Henricus Martinus (Martien) Slits, jongste zoon van Hendricus Slits en Johanna Smits, is eerst kapelaan en later pastoor in Bever in België in het bisdom Doornik. Na eerst al een tijd ziekelijk te zijn geweest is hij opgenomen in het ziekenhuis in Ronse, en is daar op Gode Vrijdag in 1978 overleden aan longkanker. Van de familie Slits zijn er nogal enkele op de uitvaart geweest in Bever en Martien ligt daar op het kerkhof begraven. Dan Martien pastoor geweest is in België en niet in Holland, kwam door de volgende redenen. Martien had als kind al zwakke longen en lag tijdens zijn lagere schol jaren al soms maanden te bed. Omdat het een goede student was en het contact met de school nogal bijgehouden werd (het hoofd van de schoolwoonde recht tegenover en de school stond er ook) heeft hij toch behoorlijk de lagere klassen afgemaakt. Hij wilde studeren. Hij kwam vanwege zijn zwakker gezondheid terecht bij de Broeders van de Onbevlekte Ontvangenis in Zevenaar, opleiding Broederonderwijzer. Doch hij wou Priester worden en kwam toen bij de Aalmoezeniers vol Arbeid, een priestercongregatie in België. In de orde kon hij niet wennen en wilde seculiere priester worden. In het bisdom den Bosch namen ze op het seminarie geen jongens aan die al in een orde gestudeerd hadden. In België wel en daar is hij toen aangenomen in het bisdom Doornik. Tijdens de oorlogsjaren 40-45 wordt in Doornik het seminarie door de Duitsers bezet, de gebouwen in beslag genomen voor de soldaten. De theologanten moeten ieder zijn eigen weg zoeken en na enkele dagen zwerven zijn ze met enkelen door een binnenpaadje over de grens gesmokkeld en kwam zodoende toch weer in Holland terecht. Ook in Holland was het seminarie bezet, maarna enige tijd hadden ze een onderdak gevonden in Mariaoord in Veghel. Omdat Martien niet naar België kon en toch graag doorstudeerde is hij na veel vóór [...] mogen studeren. Toen hij voor zijn Priesterwijding stond wilde ze hem hier in het bisdom erg graag houden. Ze hebben van het bisdom uit naar Doornik geschreven om de bewijzen van zijn subdiaernaatswijding en de vergunning van de Bisschop om hem hier te wijden. Maar de bisschop van Doornik Mgr. Delmotte, gaf die niet. Die vergunning moest hij hebben, want hij had in handen van de bisschop van Doornik, zijn beloften afgelegd en stond dus onder de Bisschop van Doornik. Maar de Bisschop van Doornik gaf de vergunning niet, maar hij zou hem met open armen ontvangen, als hij daar gewijd wilde worden. "Ik wil priester worden en ik ga", was het besluit van Martien. Hij is toen in Doornik op 8 dec 1943 priester gewijd (met hem nog twee neomisten meer). en op 2 januari in 1944 heeft hij zijn eerste plechtige mis opgedragenin Holland in Veghel, want hij had zijn thuis bij Jan Camps in Veghel. Jan Camps vrouw Dina Smits was een zuster van Johanna Smits. Martien zijn moeder. Hij was in België een fijne en erg beminde priester en Pastoor.
