    He Died at His Home in David City Sunday, May 16

    Gilbert Zegers, for 49 years a resident of Butler county, died at his home in David City Sunday, May 16 at 5:25 p.m. He had been in failing health for a number of months. He was in his 74th year.

    Born in Lemburg, Holland, November 18, 1846, Mr. Zegers came to the United States and to this county in 1871, then in his 25th year. He was married in this county to Miss Mary Litjen September 18, 1875. Six children were born to them. One daughter died six years ago. Mrs. Zegers and two sons, Peter Zegers and George Zegers, and three daughters, Mrs. Loran Harney [Kearney], Thomas Danaher and Miss Minnie Zegers, survive Mr. Zegers. George Zegers lives near Elgin. The other children live in Butler county. Mr. Zegers was a member of St. Mary's church of David City. For many years Mr. Zegers farmed near Garrison. Thirteen years ago Mr. Zegers moved to David City from the farm.

    Funeral services were held in St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, Tuesday morning, May 18, and were conducted by Rev. Father Sproll, pastor of that church, assisted by Rev. Father Mock, of St. Mary's churh, Luxemburg, and Rev. Father Colleran, of St. Francis church, David City. The pallbearers were Clarence Peters, John Peters, Bernard Sims, Gilbert Theewen, Matthew Theewen and William Zegers. There was large attendance at the funeral.
