Tijdens de oorlog werd haar door de bezetter de keuze gegeven te vertrekken ·Äûnaar het Oosten voor arbeidsinzet" dan wel naar Itali√´, aangezien zij de Italiaanse nationaliteit bezat; uiteraard koos zij voor het laatste. Na de bevrijding van Rome werkte zij geruime tijd voor de Engelse en Amerikaanse autoriteiten. Na terugkeer in Nederland in 1946 woonde zij te Amsterdam, afgewisseld door langdurige verblijven te Rome en Napels. In haar laatste jaren woonde zij te Castricum, waar zij actief was voorde dierenbescherming.
