Marie heb ik leren kennen via de Genealogie. Zij publiceerde op de site van FamilySearch in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Haar schoonmoeder is Cornelia Lucia Wetter en hààr overgrootvader NICOLAAS FREDERICUS WETTER (1784-1851) is gehuwd met MARIA SEVERIJN (1790- 1857), dochter van Stephanus Severijn (1764-1833), zoon van mijn oudste stamvader Hendrik Severijn (?-1771).

Hierdoor is Marie van de Merwe-Bakker met de familie Severijn verbonden en wisselen we gegevens uit.

Zij schreef mij dat haar grootvader en familie uit Groningen kwamen. Haar overgrootvader HARKE BAKKER kwam naar Utah en daar is dus ook familie van haar gevestigd.

Haar ouders kwamen naar Utah in 1929 en Marie is geboren in Salt Lake City in 1930 en haar broer Frank in 1931. Toen haar broer 6 maanden was vertrok het gezin naar Nederland en na de 2e W.O. in 1947 is het gezin weer teruggekeerd naar Salt Lake City, Utah.

Dankzij haar Nederlandse scholing heeft ze de genealogische sites leren begrijpen en is zij de enige in de families, die zich hiervoor interesseert, zo schrijft ze.

Sinds het overlijden van haar man woont ze alleen in haar eigen huis en later naar een verzorgingsinstelling. Zij is overleden aan darmkanker.
