In de republiek gold het zogenoemde Egtreglement: een huwelijk was pas rechtsgeldig als het voor de dominee in de Nederlands Hervormde kerk was gesloten of voor de stedelijke autoriteiten. Een katholiek huwelijk was in de Republiek niet geldig. Voor Maastricht was echter een uitzondering: het egtreglement was in Maastricht niet geldig. Katholieke huwelijken waren daar wel rechtsgeldig; alleen voor militairen gold een uitzondering; die moesten wel voor de dominee trouwen. Vaak trouwden ze daarna toch nog katkoliek. Dat is hier gebeurd, zodat er een dubbel huwelijk wordt gesloten.

Het katholieke huwelijk wordt op 21 mei 1738 in de Martinus Kerk te Wyck gesloten.
