Het gezin is gedurende de Tweede Wereldoorlog te Brunssum uitgebreid met een joods 'zusje', Roosje, dat afkomstig was uit Amsterdam. Het gaat hier vermoedelijk om een van de ongeveer 200 kinderen die door toedoen van Walter Süskind via de creche van de Hollandsche Schouwburg zijn ontsnapt en door de NV naar Brunssum zijn gebracht. Het gezin woonde in de Rumpenerstraat waar ook de SS zat. Roosje is op enig moment verdwenen. Na de oorlog heeft Chrit geprobeerd te achterhalen wat er met het kind is gebeurd. Ook latere generaties hebben geprobeerd via de gemeente Brunssum en via Jack Aldewereldt, een voormalige NV-onderduiker, om de identiteit van het kind of de kinderen te achterhalen, maar dit is niet gelukt.
