Notes about Odo Iii van Bourgondië

Odo III van Bourgondië (1166-Lyon, 1218) was de oudste zoon van hertog Hugo III van Bourgondië uit diens eerste huwelijk met Adelheid van Lotharingen.

In 1192 volgde hij zijn vader op als hertog van Bourgondië. Hij deed afstand van zijn rechten op Lotharingen in 1203 en nam deel aan de kruistocht tegen de Albigenzen in 1209 en aan de Slag bij Bouvines in 1214. Bij de voorbereiding aan de Derde Kruistocht liet hij het leven in Lyon.

In 1194 huwde hij met Mathilde van Portugal (1156-1218), dochter van Alfons I van Portugal, en weduwe van Filips van de Elzas, maar verstootte haar. In 1199 huwde hij opnieuw met Adelheid van Vergy (1182-1252), dochter van heer Hugo van Vergy, en werd vader van:
Johanna (1200-1223), die huwde met Rudolf II van Eu (-1250),
Adelheid (1204-1236), die huwde met Robert I van Clermont (-1262)
Hugo IV van Bourgondië (1213-1272)
Beatrix (geboren 1216), die huwde met Humbert III van Thoire.
