Johannes vertrok wellicht na het overlijden van zijn vader in 1699, mogelijk samen met zijn neef, vanuit Hattingen naar Kappelen en werd in 1704 burger van Moers, zoals blijkt uit de stadsrekeningen. Uit de rekening van 1704 blijkt ook dat de stad Johannes Siepmans betaald heeft voor het repareren van leren (brand)emmers, waaruit van af te leiden dat hij schoenmaker was.
