    Nancy M. Fischer, 51, passed away Monday, April 13, 2015, at her home in Ottawa, Kansas.

    A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 16, 2015, at Sacred Heart Church.

    A rosary will be said at 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at Dengel & Son Mortuary, followed by a family and friends visitation at 6:30 p.m.

    Interment St. John’s Cemetery, Homewood, Kansas.

    Nancy was born Friday, February 28, 1964, in Ottawa, the daughter of Bernard and Rita (Dalsing) Fischer.

    She was a lifelong Ottawa resident graduating from Ottawa High School with the class of 1983 and continued her education at Emporia State University, graduating in 1988, with a bachelor’s of science and a master’s of science in special education. She returned to Emporia State, graduating in 2000, with a master’s in library science.

    She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and Altar Society, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority (Sigma Chapter), Kansas Association of School Librarians, and National Education Association.

    Nancy worked twenty-seven years for USD 290 as a teacher in Special Education and as a Librarian.

    Survivors include her mother, Rita Fischer; siblings, David Fischer and wife, Karla Sister Elaine Fischer, O.S.B. , and John Fischer and Jeannette Lopez nieces and nephews, Jacob, Megan, Brock, Anthony “A.J.”, and Zachary Fischer.

    She was preceded in death by her father.

    Nancy was deeply devoted to her family. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, and growing flowers. She touched the lives of family, friends, and students with her kind and compassionate heart. Nancy will be deeply missed and remain in the hearts and thoughts of her family and friends forever.

    The family suggests memorial contributions to Sacred Heart School c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067. Family and friends are encouraged to leave their condolences and memories on Nancy’s Celebration Wall at www.dengelmortuary.com.
