At the end of the 19th century there were 600 Jews in the town and they had their own Rabbi. After that there was a decline in the population as a result of the emigration to countries overseas and the large towns.
The Jews of the town engaged in commerce mainly on the weekly market days and the annual fair. They wrre also peddlers in the surrounding willages. Some families made a living from farming.
During the period between the two world wars, branches of zionist organisations were established in the town. 'Hamizrahi' was the largsest and most influential. Prior to WWII there were 440 Jews in Brzozdowce.

After the outbreak of WWII on September 1, 1939 and as a result of the agreement between Germany and the Soviet Union, the eastern part of Poland came under the jurisdiction of the Sviet Union but it was conquered by the Germans after the invasion of the Soviet Union in June 1941.
