Onderscheidingen
Ridder in de Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw, Officier in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau met de Zwaarden, Bronzen Leeuw, Oorlogsherinneringkruis met gesp Nederland mei 1940, Onderscheidingsteken voor langdurige dienst als officier met het cijfer XL (40 jaar), Commandeur 2e klasse in de Orde van het Zwaard (Zweden).

Tijdens de Meidagen '40 was Julius Zegers commandant van vliegveld 'De Vlijt' op Texel. met haar jachtvliegeropleiding. De oorlogsjaren waren voor hem avontuurlijk. De periode daarna culmineerde in 1953 in een lidmaatschap van het Hoog Militair Gerechtshof. Zegers was toen generaal-majoor. Twee jaar na zijn pensionering overleed deze militair in hart en nieren.
KNIL en LuVa
Geboren in 1897 in Leeuwarden, kwam Zegers in 1915 bij de landmacht. Vier jaar later vertrok hij naar Nederlands-Indie om in 1924 terug te keren, geveld door malaria. Nog geen drie maanden later meldde hij zich bij de LuVa. Daar zat men te springen om jong reserveofficieren. Als eerste luitenant haalde Zegers een jaar later zijn groot militair vliegbrevet. In 1930 werd hij beroepsmilitair.

Stroomversnelling
Tijdens de jaren dertig bekwaamde Zegers zich verder in het vliegen. Hij behaalde het brevet van vlieger-waarnemer. En deed ervaring op met meermotorige vliegtuigen bij de KLM. Bevorderd tot kapitein werd hij instructeur op Soesterberg. De mobilisatie bracht hem het commandantschap van vliegveld 'De Vlijt'.

Verzet , krijgsgevangenschap en ontsnapping
Na de capitulatie ging Zegers in het verzet. Nog onduidelijk is bij welke beweging. Zijn schuilnaam was ' Hendrikse'. Desondanks verdween hij in 1942 in krijgsgevangenschap. Evenals duizenden andere Nederlandse officieren. Nog geen twee jaar later ontsnapte hij uit het kamp Stanislau in Oost-Polen. Verstopt in een kist kwam hij terug in Nederland. Na een 30-urige treinreis werd zijn wagon afgekoppeld in Amersfoort.

Naar Engeland...maar het worden de Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten.
Zegers wilde naar Engeland. Connecties hielpen hem op weg. Een escape-route door Belgie, Frankrijk en Spanje was het plan. Het strandde in Parijs. Opgepakt door de Gestapo verdween hij andermaal in Duitse krijgsgevangenschap. Nog tijdens het transport wist Zegers echter te ontsnappen. Ter hoogte van Oldenzaal sprong hij uit de trein. Eenmaal terug in Amersfoort, zijn woonplaats, sloot hij zich aan bij de Binnenlandse Strijdkrachten, gewest 8 - Utrecht.

Na de oorlog...
Na de oorlog deed de luchtmacht een beroep op Zegers' organisatorische kwaliteiten. Zo was hij nauw betrokken bij de vorming van het Commando Luchtvaarttropen. In 1947 werd hij commandant van de vliegbasis Twente. Ook speelde Zegers een rol bij de vorming van het Commando Tactische Luchtstrijdkrachten. In 1952 was hij haar eerste commandant. Zijn rol als lid van het Hoog Militair Gerechtshof vervulde hij na 1953 met een diepe sociale bewogenheid en een groot gevoel voor rechtvaardigheid. Julianus Zegers overleed op 25 mei 1970 op 72-jarige leeftijd in Amersfoort.
