In de loop der tijd waren formulieren gestandaardiseerd en waren aanvullende vragen toegevoegd. Afhankelijk van het jaar bevat de opgenomen informatie van een passagier de naam, leeftijd, geslacht, beroep, bestemming en informatie betreft plaats van oorsprong, zoals land van oorsprong, burgerschap status, ras, nationaliteit, geboorteplaats of laatste woonplaats. Rond 1907 bevatte passagiersmanifesten 29 kolommen en waren deze twee pagina's breed met linker- en rechterkanten. Veel van de passagiersmanifesten bestonden uit twee pagina's. Een bekend probleem voor genealogen was dan ook het missen van het bestaan van de tweede pagina, nadat de eerste wel was gevonden.
