Wouter, Jorinus, Bernardus Antonius Schram werd op 17 november 1895 geboren te Amsterdam als enige zoon van welgestelde ouders. Hij was leerling van de Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam o.l.v. D.L. Dake, A.J. Derkinderen en N. van der Waay en daarnaast van Kl. van Leeuwen. Hij schilderde, aquarelleerd en tekende stillevens, portretten, figuren, naakten en maakte litho's. Hij maakte o.m. tussen 1921 en 1923 een studiereis door Duitsland.

Het werk van Wout Schram wordt gerekend tot het Nieuwe Realisme. De schilders die tot deze stroming behoorden streefden naar een zo objectief mogelijke weergave van de werkelijkheid. Zijn stillevens en portretten worden gekenmerkt door een uitgewogen plaatsing van de voorwerpen ten opzichte van elkaar en door een onnatuurlijk aandoend hoog standpunt, zodat de vormen elkaar zo min mogelijk overlappen.
