    August Sr. was born in Bessarabia, South Russia, son of William Quast and Christine Klittman, and married November 21, 1882, in Russia, to Kathrina Bremer. The family arrived from Russia in June 1902, and settled at Tripp, South Dakota. In 1905, they settled west of Elgin, Grant County, North Dakota.
    The children included Mary Quast Loeffler, Katherine Quast Mindt, August M. Quast, Teresa Quast Schweit, Christian Quast, Christine Quast Neal, and Daniel Quast.
