Died January 31, 2006 in Columbus, OH. Mr. DeHaan was born January 19, 1924 in Kalamazoo, MI. A son of the late Mr. Harm and Elizabeth (VanderBie) DeHaan, he lived in Bluefield, WV, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church there. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps, he was a graduate of General Motors Institute of Technology, and for many years was an automotive design engineer at General Motors in Detroit. He was employed at Kersey Manufacturing, Bluefield, as Director of Engineering. After leaving Kersey Manufacturing, Bert began his own consulting business until his retirement. Throughout his life, Bert delighted in learning and sharing knowledge. His wife, Margaret (Andrews) DeHaan, and his brother, Garrett DeHaan, preceded him in death. Survivors include his daughter, Deborah (Terence) Sullivan of Columbus, OH; sons, Dave L. (Karen) DeHaan of Bluefield, WV, and Michael L. (Libby) DeHaan of Morgantown, WV; brothers, Laurence (June) DeHaan and John (Helen) DeHaan; brother-in-law, Dr. Michael (Anne) Andrews. Bert was loved by seven grandchildren: Kirk and Sara DeHaan, Libby, Michael and Maggie Sullivan, and Nico and Rachel DeHaan. He treasured his friends, Bob and Joan Taylor, Hank Knapper, Fred VanerMeer and Wesleyn Smith. Graveside Services and inurnment will be in Charlotte, NC, in Evergreen Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. February 4. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Margaret Andrews DeHaan Scholarships Fund, Greensboro College, 815 Market St., Greensboro, NC 27401. Arrangements by the Novak Funeral Home, Columbus, OH 614-268-8811.
