    Het ‘Meisje zonder hoofd’ was een bekend kijkwerk op de Nederlandse en buitenlandse kermissen. Ook de ‘Dame zonder onderlichaam’ is misschien bij velen nog bekend.

    Foeke Huizinga werd in 1886 geboren. Op zes jarige leeftijd door zijn tweede moeder weggegeven aan een circus, dat in de buurt stond. Toen hij zestien jaar was, werd hij plotseling door zijn vader opgehaald en mee naar huis genomen. In Drenthe leerde hij zijn vrouw kennen, het was Maria van Schoten. Ook zij was geboren in 1886. Samen gingen zij in een circus werken, hij als acrobaat, maar zij zijn later voor zich zelf begonnen.

    Er was echter in de veertiger en vijftiger jaren ook een kijkwerk met een ‘Dame’ waar het gehele lichaam ontbrak. Foeke Huizinga uit Breda presenteerde destijds samen met zijn dochters Sjouke en Tonia en zijn zoon Thijs het ‘Sprekende Hoofd’ dat bekend stond als het ‘Wonder van Dendermonde’. Het geheel speelde zich af in een tent van acht bij zes meter met een parade.

    Het schilderwerk bij deze zaak was gedaan door de bekende decorateur H. Giesing uit Leeuwarden. Dit Kijkwerk heeft vele jaren succesvol gereisd. Aardig detail was hier dat het publiek ook met ‘het Hoofd’ konden communiceren. Het paradewerk werd later hoofdzakelijk gedaan door zoon Thijs, die toen ook de presentatie van de show binnen voor zijn rekening nam.

    Maria van Schoten overleed op 19 januari 1961 te Breda en Foeke overleed omstreeks 14 april 1967 eveneens in Breda.
