Notes about Constant Henri Roosegaarde Bisschop

Dr. R. B. doorliep de H.B.S. 5-j.c. te Haarlem, legde staatsex. af en studeerde
te Leiden, waar hij in 1907 promoveerde. - Aanvankelijk
koos hij de consulaire loopbaan, doch toen hem
begin 1908 werd aangeboden, te werk te worden gesteld
bij de Ned. Handel-Mij. te Amsterdam onder leiding van
pres. J. T. Cremer, oud-min, v. Kol., meende hij deze zeldzame
gelegenheid te baat te moeten nemen. Hij werd belast
met belangrijke opdrachten der directie, destijds bestaande
uit J. T. Cremer, C. J. K. van Aalst, Abram Muller
en J. Bierens de Haan. De juiste uitvoering daarvan
leidde in 1909 tot zijn aanstelling als chef van de inmiddels
opger. afd. Alg. Zaken. - Tot zijn arbeid behoorde
ook assistentie bij de oprichting van versch. industr.- en
landb.-ondernemingen, zooals b.v. de Ned. Mij. v. Havenwerken
en de Ned. Staalfabr. de Muinck Keizer, waarvan
hij secr. van comm. werd. Voorts werd hij, deels ter behartiging
van de belangen der N.H.M., benoemd tot comm. van
versch. vennootsch. op zeer uiteenloopend gebied. Toen
onder pres. van Dr. C. J. K. van Aalst de zaken te 's-Gravenhage
een grootere vlucht namen, werd Dr. R. B. in
1918 benoemd tot mede-agent aldaar. - Mede onder zijn
leiding groeide het bedrijf voortdurend, zoodat in 1924
het groote gebouw op den Kneuterdijk werd betrokken
met allengs drievoudig uitgebreid personeel, hetwelk in
de crisisjaren kon worden gehandhaafd en zelfs vergroot. —
De positie, welke hij in de bankwereld innam, blijkt o.m.
uit zijn functie van voorz. der comm. tot beslissing in
hoogste instantie over schorsing of vervallenverklaring van
het lidmaatschap v. d. Bond voor den Geld- en Effectenhandel
in de Provincie. - De Min. v. Kol. benoemde hem
tot bestuurslid, thans penningm., van het Curagaosch
Ondersteuningsfonds. — Van zijn hand verschenen in versch.
bladen artikelen op bankgebied. Jarenlang is R. B.
reeds Membre du Comité de Patronage de la Soc. beige
d'Etudes et d'Expansion. - Reeds tijdens zijn studententijd
was hij eenigen tijd werkzaam b. d. Ned. Kamer v.
Koophandel te Londen; ook na den oorlog bezocht hij
verscheidene malen Engeland, o.a. fabrieken in Yorkshire,
Lancashire, Manchester, Sheffield, Dublin, e.a.,
terwijl hij bovendien België, Frankrijk, Zwitserland,
Duitschland, Hongarije, Oostenrijk en Tsjechoslowakije
bereisde. - In vrijen tijd heeft hij zich bijzonder geïnteresseerd
voor het M.O. In 1918 werd hij door het gemeentebestuur
van 's-Gravenhage benoemd tot gecomm. bij het
eindex. der 5-j. H.B.S. Telken jare herbenoemd, werd hij
voorz. van gecomm. van deze school, welke inmiddels
door wetswijziging werd vervormd tot H.B.S. A. Het aantal
candidaten voor de eindexamens steeg van 20 tot 100,
waardoor deze inrichting van onderw. vrijwel de grootste
van den lande op dit gebied werd. Bij het 50-jarig bestaan
dezer school in 1934 werd Dr. R. B. op grootsche wijze gehuldigd.
Tevens volgde zijn benoeming tot gecomm. b. d.
eindexamens der lit.-econ. afdeeling van het Ned. Lyceum
te 's-Gravenhage. Na de wetswijziging in 1938 werd hij
uitgenoodigd, op te treden als Rijksdeskundige bij de
eindexamens aan de H.B.S. in de Insp. Zuid-Holland en
Zeeland, voor handelswetensch. en economie. Zijn contact
met de jeugd leidde tot belangstelling voor de Vereen, v.
Internat. Jeugd verkeer, te Leiden, in welker hoofdbestuur
hij sinds jaren zitting heeft.
