Door alle mogelijke vertragingen kwam het ziekenhuisje pas gereed in 1886. We lezen steeds dat er in 27 jaar slechts twee patië;nten werden opgenomen. Wie weet waren het er meer, wel drie of zo, maar duidelijk zal zijn dat deze voorganger van Bethesda - en directe opvolger van het Houten Wambuis en de kamer in het Armwerkhuis - weinig heeft kunnen betekenen voor de gezondheid van Hoogeveen en omstreken.
