Carolus Ludovicus Peeters werd geboren in de Barelstraat te Bornem als eerste zoon van arbeider Jan Baptist en dagloonster Nathalia  Coeck.  Zijn moeder Nathalia werkte af en toe als bakster  terwijl zijn vader de kost verdiende als brouwersgast. Na de geboorte van Carolus Ludovicus volgen er nog drie zussen en drie broers. In 1885 krijgt vader Jan Baptist een geraaktheid. Hij overlijd op 62-jarige leeftijd. Moeder Nathalie blijft wonen in het huis in de Barelstraat.


 


In 1892 is Carolus Ludovicus al 38 jaar oud wanneer hij met negen jaar jongere Threes Janssens huwt.  Threes woont eveneens in de Barelstraat. Ze is de dochter van de overleden timmerman Ferdinand en herbergierster Josephina Cools. Threes had al enkele kinderen op de wereld gezet. Haar eerste zoontje was Leopold (1882). Hij stierf op 4-jarige leeftijd aan de windpokken. Bij het huwelijk herkende Carolus Ludovicus ook twee andere kinderen: Marie (°1889) en Franciscus (°1891). Enkele dagen na het huwelijk trekt Carolus Ludovicus in bij zijn kersverse vrouw Theresia.


 


Eén jaar later, in 1893 bevalt Threes van een zoon die ze de naam Victor mee geven. Hij zal later mandenmaker worden en huwen met Maria Pauwels. In Bornem was hij beter bekend onder de bijnaam “Toren Van Trees Janssens” In 1895 komt Miel op de wereld. Met zijn roodkleurige haren werd hij al snel “De Vos Van Trees Janssens” genoemd. Miel werd een mattenmaker. Als hobby was hij duivenmelker.


 


In 1897 werd Franciscus ernstig ziek. Hij overlijd uiteindelijk op 6 jarige leeftijd aan de mazelen. Hierna duurt het nog tot 1901 dat Trees nog een kind zal baren. Het koppel krijgt een dochter dat ze de naam Leine geven. In 1903 kwam hun jongste kind “Charles” op de wereld. Hij had de bijnaam “Charles Waai”. Charles  is nog net geen 6 jaar oud wanneer zijn moeder Threes thuis in de Barelstraat sterft. Het gezin blijft gebroken achter.


 


In 1910 huwt de oudste dochter Marie met voerman Karel Maerevoet, beter bekend als “De Badde” . Het koppel krijgt vijf kinderen waarvan twee dood geboren worden.


 


In 1913 verlaat ook Victor het ouderlijk huis. Hij werkt op dat moment als brouwersgast en  gaat bij zijn schoonouders wonen in de Breevenstraat 29. Kort na zijn huwelijk werdhij opgeroepen om in het leger te gaan. Hij stond bij het fort van Bornem maar werd na enkele maanden krijgsgevangene genomen en voor enkele jaren naar het Duitse kamp Güstrow gestuurd. Na zijn terugkomst gaat hij aan de slag als mandenmaker.


 


Tijdens de oorlog vertrekt ook Miel uit het ouderlijk huis. Hij gaat wonen naar de Kapelstraat. Pas jaren later verhuis hij naar de  Puursesteenweg


 


In 1918 overlijd Marie, oudste dochter van Trees Janssens en Carolus Ludovicus. Ze werd maar 29 jaar oud.  Haar man “Den Badde” zou nadien terug hertrouwen.


 


In 1919 overlijd vader Carolus Ludovicus. Een half jaar later huwt dochter Leine met paardenslachter Alfons Verhulst. Het koppel verhuisd voor drie jaar naar de Zamanstraat in Sint-Niklaas, maar in 1923 keren ze terug naar Bornem. Ze gaan dan wonen in de Clementstraat.


Charles trekt in bij zijn broer Victor. In 1927 vertrekt Charles voor een tijdje naar de Volksplaats in Temse.
