Jan Borms werd geboren in Sint-Amands als zoon van Hendrik en Joanna Zegers. Jan huwde op 32-jarige leeftijd in zijn geboortedorp met Elisabeth Goossens. Zij is waarschijnlijk afkomstig uit Opdorp. Afgaande op de doopheffers bij haar kinderen en de huweijksgetuigen is ze een telg zijn uit het gezin van Petrus Goossens en Maria De Leebeeck. Volgens de status animarum van Malderen-Opdorp van 1706 woonde Maria De Leebeeck met haar tweede echtgenoot effectief in Opdorp met haar jongste kinderen. De oudste kinderen zijn daarbij wel niet vermeld, maar die warenin 1706 ofwel al gehuwd, ofwel waren ze wellicht ergens in dienst als knecht of meid. Volgens de doopakten van Malderen-Opdorp is er in dat gezin echter geen Elisabeth geboren.


Samen met Jan Borms krijgen de twee tussen 1713 en 1726 acht kinderen. In augustus 1727 kwam Jan Borms te overlijden. Twee jaar later hertrouwde Elisabeth Goossens met ene Michael Boeykens, tevens de achterneef van haar eerste man Jan Borms. Samen met Michael krijgt ze drie kinderen: Joannes (1730), Maria Anna (1732) en Judoca (1734)
