Jacobus De Meireleir werd geboren op donderdag 27 april 1758 in Temse.  In 1787 werd Jacobus peter van Joanna Theresia De Meireleir, de dochter van oudere broer Petrus Josephus. Jacobus zelf ging aan de slag als dagloner. Jacobus was al 31-jaar oud wanneer hij op 17 mei 1789 huwt met de vier jaar jongere Catharina Francisca Adriaenssens. Catharina Francisca was aan het werk als kantwerkster. Ze was de dochter van Josephus en Catherine Philippina Maes, maar haar moeder was al overleden van toen Catharina-Francisca amper zes jaar oud was. Haar vader, Josephus, was echter snel hertrouwd met Maria Francisca Van Der Spurte.


Tijdens het huwelijk van Jacobus De Meireleir en Catharina-Francisca Adriaenssens was het koppel eigenlijk al in blije verwachting van hun eerste kindje. Drie maand na hun huwelijk kwam op 29 augustus 1789 de kleine Josephus op de wereld. Twee jaar later volgde er een broertje, Henricus. Maar dit kindje werd maar twee maar oud. In februari 1793 trad Josephus op als getuige bij het huwelijk van Petrus Nicolas De Bruyne en Maria Jacoba De Keersmaecker


Op 29 november 1793 volgde er voor het eerst een dochter Sophia en in 1795 een zoon Francis. Pas in 1804 kwam een laatste kindje op de wereld, Lucia. Maar ook zij werd maar 2 maand oud. In datzelfde jaar werkte vader Jacobus als dagloner. Hij kon ook datzelfde jaar zijn eigen naam schrijven en deed dit dan ook bij de burgerlijke stand. Zijn echtgenote, Catherine Francisca was zelf ongeletterd.


Het gezin van Jacobus en Catharina-Francisca bestond dus in 1805 uit slechts drie kinderen: Jozef, Sophie en Francis. De oudste zoon, Josephus ging aan de slag als wever.


Catharina Adriaenssens overleed op 1 jul 1818 in haar woning in de Oeverstraat op 56-jarige leeftijd. Amper 23 dagen later overleed ook haar echtgenoot Jacobus De Meireleir in diezelfde woning. Hijwerd 60 jaar.


Op 25 oktober 1819 beviel dochter Sophia, die aan het werk was als kantwerkster, van een voorhuwelijkse zoon: Dominicus. Na de geboorte van haar zoontje ging Sophia aan het werk als dienstmeid. Zo belande ze in het naburige Hamme. In 1821 trad ze in het huwelijk met de beurtschipper SeraphinusVerherren uit Hamme en vertrekt ze naar zijn geboortedorp.
