Guido was net als zijn twee zusters minderbegaaft. De oorzaak is niet duidelijk: genetisch? metabool?


Hij was linkshandig en schreef in spiegelschrift. Zijn naam was zo wat het enige dat hij kon schrijven. Als men hem GUIDO DE MAEYER in normaalschrift liet zien kon hij geen enkel verschil merken tussen zijn eigen spiegelschrift en het normaalschrift.
