Notes about Willem "Wim" de Groot

Na het behalen van de hoofdakte aan de kweekschool te Dordrecht in 1936, kon Wim nog niet direct als onderwijzer aan de slag. Indertijd gold een sollicitatieverbod voor pas afgestudeerden, omdat wachtgelders eerst aan een baan moest worden geholpen. Na enige tijd werd hij onderwijzer op een basisschool in Oud-Beijerland. Daar leerde hij zijn latere echtgenote Lenie kennen met wie hij zich in 1943 verloofde. Intussen behaalde Wim de aktes duits, frans, wiskunde, schrijven en in 1945 handelskennis. In 1941 gaf hij op tijdelijke basis - één jaar - les op een ULO-school in Kollum te Friesland. In 1947 is het gezin verhuisd naar Aalst (Gelderland) waar hij leraar werd bij de tweemans Christelijke ULO-school Aalst (later genoemd de Koningin Emmaschool). Rond 1952 verhuisde het gezin naar Zwijndrecht, waar Wim docent werd op de Christelijk ULO-school aldaar. Hij gaf daar les in de vakken frans, nederlands, duits en wiskunde. In 1962 kreeg Wim een aanstelling als hoofd van de ULO-school “De Wiekslag” in Aalsmeer.
