"...Bij de scheiding en deling omstreeks 1540 van de ouderlijke goederen Dammerscheidt kreeg Jan, de enige broer van de abt [Leonard van Dammerscheidt], het stamslot te Voerendaal (in latere tijden 'Dammerscheidt' genoemd) met alle toebehoren. Gertruda [van Dammerscheidt] kreeg toen het adellijk landgoed Kuckum te Bardenberg, met uitzondering van de steenkoolontginningen en alle eventuele ondergrondse kolenlagen aldaar. De opbrengsten hiervan moesten ten goede komen aan de toen erfgerechtigden, onder wie abt Leonard..."

"Kuckum, adliges Lehen bei Bardenberg. Im 16. Jahrhundert war Johann von Dammerscheidt, 1572 dessen Schwiegersohn von Godenrath Besitzer des Lehens. Hierauf entstand ein Erbfolgestreit zwischen von Spee, von Holtz, von Horpesch und zu dem Weiler. Die von Horpesch kamen zum Besitz und blieben darin, bis dasselbe auf Betreiben der Gläubiger dem Johann Caspar Clotz 1729 adjudiziert worden, welcher so wie dessen Nachkommen die Belehnung erhalten.Verhandlungen von 1581-1778."
