ls Matdlena in 1711 naar Nederland gaat, staat zij te boek als een doperse, haar kinderen zijn dan nog "reformiert".

Eerst wordt Madlena Schmid (in nederlandse stukken wel Madalena Smeets genoemd) met haar zoon Emanuel ondergebracht bij Jan Wolters in Sappemeer. Kort daarop staat in een notitie vermeld: "Madalena Smeets een Plaats gekogt tot Helpen" (Helpman).
