Toen Stijna overleed waren de kinderen Albert, Hendrikje en Roelofje nog minderjarig.

Volgens de wet moest er dus een toeziend voogd worden benoemd. Dit is gebeurd in een

zitting van het vredegeregt te Assen (extract v.d. minuten 13 april 1819), waar Jannis Koops

(broer van Stijna) te Smilde benoemd werd als toeziend voogd.
