Notes about Jeltje Andries

In 1740 verhuisd weduwe Jeltje Andries naar it Heidenskip en huurt de plaats op Helspaed 3. Lang woont ze er niet want in 1746 heeft ze de plaats verlaten.
Het zijn slechte tijden voor de boeren. De veepest (mond en klauwzeer) breekt uit in Friesland. Bijna geen enkele boer ontkomt eraan, sommigen verliezen in een keer al hun vee. Aan inenten werd toen nog niet gedaan want men zag de ziekte als een straf van God. Van sept. 1744 tot aan aug. 1745 stierven er in Friesland 58.539 koeien, 19.196 stieren, 22.991 hokkelingen en 22.599 kalveren.
De eigenaar van de plaats, Ygius Libarius, die in de omgeving van Amsterdam woont, kan geen nieuwe huurder meer vinden en zodoende staat de plaats leeg. Omdat Ygius nu geen huur meer ontvangt krijgt hij geld gebrek en in de reeelkohier van 1747 staat dat de plaats nu aan de provincie toebehoort. De provincie is zo op een goedkope manier aan de plaats gekomen.
Doordat de plaats een paar jaar leeg gestaan heeft, lag het land er erg wild bij. De provincie slaagt erin om in het jaar van de pachtersoproer (1748, zij streden voor een eerlijker belastingssysteem) een nieuwe huurder te vinden, namelijk Jeltje Andries zoon Eelke Eelkes en zijn vrouw Gryttje Piters.
