    Am 22. Mai 1912 wurde Kurt als Sohn des Administrator Hans Metelmann und seiner Ehefrau Ida geb. Wieschendorf zu Käselow geboren.
    1918 pachtete sein Vater das 500 ha große Rittergut Barnerstück bei Schwerin und besuchte er das Gymnasium zu Schwerin bis zur Primareife.
    Nach beendeter Lehrzeit im väterlichen Betrieb und in der Saatgutwirtschaft des Herrn Fritz Haase zu Vogtshagen bei Rostock bestand er seine Lehrlingsprüfung in Neu-Wokern. Anschließend war Kurt von 1932 - 1934 auf dem150 ha großen Kammergut des Herrn Hans Roth in Neu-Bartelsdorf bei Rostock als Wirtschafter. Von dort ging er als 2. Inspektor auf das 1200 ha große Rittergut Krumbeck des Fräulein Ursula von Dewitz im Kreise Neubrandenburg.
    Anschließend besuchte er das Thüneninstitut zu Rostock und verließ dieses nach bestandenem Examen im Herbst 1938 als "staatlich geprüfter Landwirt". Dann übernahm er in Barnerstück die Bewirtschaftung des väterlichen Betriebes.
    Am 28 August 1939 wurde Kurt zum Wehrdienst eingezogen.
    Nach Teilnahme am Polenfeldzug kam er nach Köslin in Pommern zu einem Offizierslehrgang. Als Leutnant tat er einige Monate Dienst in seiner Garnisonstadt Schwerin und wurde von dort als Gebietslandwirt unter Beibehaltung seines Leutnants-Rangen zur Wirtschaftsinspektion Süd abkommandiert.
    Von Herbst 1941 - Januar 1943 tat Kurt als solcher Dienst in Krassnograd bei Poltawa unter der dortigen Militärverwaltung.
    Im Januar 1943 kam er wieder zur aktiven Truppe und wurde zur Neuaufstellung der 71 I.D. nach Dänemark als Oberleutnant und Batterie-Chef abgestellt. Bis Kriegsende nahm er an den Feldzügen in Italien und Ungarn teil und wurde im Juli 1945 als Hauptmann und Abteilungs-Kommandeur entlassen.
    Am 1. April 1947 bekam Kurt die Verwalterstelle auf der 90 ha grossen Spargel- und Gemüseplantage des Herrn Julius Blaese zu Wipshausen Kreis Peine.
    Mit dem 1. April 1949 trat er in die Firma Fritz Plate-Peine-früher Klötze in der Altmark, als Vertreter ein.
    Hier legte Kurt im ersten Jahr seine Tätigkeit vor der Landwirtschaftskammer Hannover ab, da die Firma außer Getreide- und Düngerhandel noch eine Kartoffel-Vermehrungsfläche von ca. 1000 ha hatte.
