Notes about Cornelis "Nil" den Braber

Nil was arbeider. Hij wordt in 1867 vrijgesteld van de Nationale Militie
wegens broederdienst, vervuld door zijn stiefbroer Jan Kunter. Op 22
maart 1870 wordt Cornelis opgepakt met 7 anderen wegens rellen en het
plegen van rebellie (belediging met woorden etc.). Nil ontkende echter
hier iets mee te maken te hebben en wordt vrijgesproken wegens gebrek
aan bewijs.
Met behulp van een hypothecaire lening kocht Nil in 1884 van
burgemeester Josephus Klijn een huis met erf aan het Moleneind, groot 73
centiaren. Na Nil'sdood sloot Trina bij dezelfde geldgever een tweede
hypotheek van nog eens fl.260 af op het huis. Bij haar overlijden is het
door de kinderen openbaar verkocht. Met een bod van fl.820 werd Dirk
Heynen de nieuwe eigenaar. De invertaris, die naar aanleiding van de
dood van Trina werd opgemaakt, leert dat er ter waarde van fl.37,85 aan
huisraad e.d. in huis was, maar daar moest nog wel een schuld van acht
gulden af wegens het kopen van een klok bij Gerrit de Jager. Na de dood
van Trina in 1902 werden haar schoonzoon Piet van Rijsbergen en haar
zwager Gerrit Dam - de man van haar zuster Johanna - aangewezen als
voogd, resp. toeziend voogd over de beide nog ongehuwde kinderen Nil en
K‚. Uit de nalatenschap van Nil en Trina kregen de vijf nog levende
kinderen ieder fl.30,85. Omdat kort voor deze boedelscheiding de oudste
zoon Bernard door een ongeluk om het leven gekomen was, moest diens
weduwe Maria Schenk dat delen met haar kinderen. Deze kregen elk 7
gulden en 71 cent.
