    veter kwijt
    Het laatste uur leek geslagen voor
    dr. F. Peetoom, leider van de bloed-
    transfusie-dienst van het Nederland-
    sche Rode Kruis in Kongo, toen een
    wildgebarende neger hem dezer da-
    gen aanhield.
    Dokter Peetoom werd meegevoerd
    het bos in langs de straatweg van het
    vliegveld Ndjile naar Leopoldstad en
    geleid naar een vrouw, die bezig
    was het leven te schenken aan een
    kind. 
    Dr. Peetoom assisteerde bij het laat-
    ste deel van de bevalling en bracht
    moeder en kind (een meisje) daarna
    naar het ziekenhuis in Leopoldstad
    De arts heeft er bij deze „aanhouding"
    alleen een veter bij ingeschoten. Hij
    moest n.l. de veter van een van zijn
    schoenen gebruiken om de navel-
    streng van de pasgeborene af te bin-
    den.
