De geschiedenis van deze boerderij is lange tijd verbonden geweest met de familie Peek. Al rond 1890 wordt deze boerderij bewoond door Josephus Cornelis Peek en zijn vrouw. In 1900 wordt het gezin, dat dan al kinderen heeft, verblijdt met de geboorte van zoon Hugo. Deze Hugo is de vader van Jo Peek, geboren en getogen op boerderij De Witboom en verteller van deze familiegeschiedenis.

De Schoudermantel is rond 1900 een veeteeltbedrijf. De boerderij is van het type langhuis met een afgewolfde rieten kap. De grond strekt zich uit tot de overkant van de Provincialeweg, tot aan het Raaphofse Pad. De boerderij wordt bewoond door het gezin met vijf zonen. Als de jongens volwassen zijn, verkrijgen drie van hen een stuk grond van de Schoudermantel om een eigen boerenbedrijf te beginnen. De vierde zoon (AN. Peek) blijft op het bedrijf van vader en de vijfde zoon vertrekt naar Brabant om boer te worden.
Rond 1925 koopt Josephus Peek boerderij De Witboom en met een stuk grond van De Schoudermantel wordt het de boerderij waar Hugo Peek zal wonen, werken en een gezin stichten. Op De Schoudermantel is het veeteeltbedrijf inmiddels omgezet in een fruitteeltbedrijf. De schuur, die oorspronkelijk rechts van de boerderij staat, wordt dan verbouwd tot fruitbewaarplaats. Na het overlijden van AN. Peek wordt de boerderij door de erven verkocht aan de gemeente Bunnik. De schuur wordt gesloopt en de boerderij gaat dienst doen als jeugdsociëteit. Bij een hevige brand wordt De Schoudermantel zo erg beschadigd dat er een nieuwe boerderij voor in de plaats komt: hetzelfde model (langhuistype), alleen geen rieten kap meer!
