    Pieter Koelewijn, geboren in 1872 in Katwijk, werd in augustus 1901 aangesteld als rijksveldwachter, jachtopziener te Castricum en woonde met zijn gezin in de Schoolstraat. Omdat hij niet uit het dorp wilde verhuizen, was hij brigadier titulair, wat betekende dat hij wel de rang had maar niet het bijbehorende salaris. In september 1908 werd hij geplaatst in Bakkum en ging wonen in de toen nieuw gebouwde politiepost aan de Van Oldenbarneveldweg. Het was een grote, sterke man met een grote baard, die in zijn uniform indruk maakte. Hij had het vertrouwen van de Bakkummers. Bij zijn 25-jarig jubileum kreeg hij van de bevolking een gouden horloge met inscriptie.
