Johannes heeft tijdens de oorlog blanco stempels in zijn bezit waarmee hij papieren vervalst voor onder andere joodse onderduikers. Hoogstwaarschijnlijk wordt Johannes door een kapper in Scheveningen verraden, waarna de politie, vermomd als onderduikers bij hem thuis komt. Johannes wordt daarop gearresteerd. Op 13 februari 1943 overlijdt Johannes aan de ontberingen in Kamp Vught.\r\r2003\rOmdat de familie na de dood van Johannes de verkeerde spullen krijgt thuisgestuurd denken zij dat Johannes nog in leven is. Pas in 2003 komt zijn kleinzoon er achter dat Johannes daadwerkelijk in Vught om het leven is gekomen.\r\rBronnen:\r\r Sterbebuch 1943
