Jean Indekeu trok na zijn studie agronomie te Leuven, omstreeks 1936, naar Frankrijk, eerst naar de Champagnestreek waar hij maar korte tijd verbleef. Blijkbaar werkte hij voor de oorlog al voor Franse en Belgische inlichtingendiensten (als “souslieutenant”), zodat het niet mag verwonderen dat hij bij het begin van de oorlog in Duitsland verbleef. Tijdens de oorlog raakte hij betrokken bij de Franse weerstand in La Rochelle, toen een uitvalsbasis voor Duitse duikboten die van hieruit de bevoorradingsroutes van de geallieerden onveilig maakten. Op 11 augustus 1942 werd hij in Loges de Mervent door de Duitsers aan- gehouden. Op 28 augustus 1942 werd hij eerst naar Munster en naderhand naar Brondelsbourg overgebracht, waar hij op 2 juli 1943 werd terechtgesteld. Op 29 februari 1972 besliste het stadsbestuur van La Rochelle een straat naar hem te noemen: “Rue Jan Indekeu”
