Ovink, Willem Christiaan & Gerardina Elisabeth (Brugman)
Willem and Gerardina Ovink hid Mr. and Mrs. Rodrigues and their son and daughter in their apartment in Amsterdam. Mr. Rodrigues warned Willem and Gerardina that sheltering Jews could cost them their lives, but the Ovinks, whose daughter and dog were also living in the apartment, answered: "Then we will have given it for a good cause. Besides, we have known you for some years, and we couldn't continue to live with ourselves if we didn't at least do our best." Willem and Gerardinawere simply motivated by their desire to help their friends. During their time in hiding, the Rodrigueses never left the apartment. They had a hiding place under the house and their own bedroom, but they shared the living room with the hostsfor the entire duration of their 26-month stay.
