    Hieronder lag een vrouw, naar het leven uitgebeeld, met de navolgende verzen:
    Dit uiterlijk had ik ooit, maar nu liggen mijn stoffelijke resten in dit graf,
    Totdat door Christus' wederkomst mij het leven en het heil geschonken wordt,
    Intussen rusten mijn beenderen zacht onder deze steen.
    Zij blonk uit door edele afkomst, door vroomheid en als deugdzame echtgenote, de eerzame Paulina, dochter van Hildebrand Roltman, burgemeester van Groningen, van moederskant uit de familie Rengers. Op 12 september 1598, 15 dagen na een bevalling, 29 jaar, elf maanden en twaalf dagen oud, is zij zalig overleden. Voor zijn geliefde vrouw en moeder van vijf kinderen, maar ook voor zichzelf en zijn erfgenamen, heeft haar echtgenoot Gillis Hooftman,1 patriciër van Antwerpen, dit graflaten maken.
