Notes about Johannes "Jannes" Brandehof

Samen met zijn broer Gerardus (1825-1900) in 1847 geëmigreerd naar USA. Volgens familieoverlevering zouden zij Amerika via de haven van New Orleans, Louisiana zijn binnengekomen. Ze vestigden zich aanvankelijk in Cincinnati, Ohio, waar ze hun vrouwen ontmoetten en gezinnen stichtten.
Gerardus (de 3e overgrootvader van deze bron) trouwde met Theresia Potter (geb. 1827 in Duitsland).
Johannes had veel geluk/ongeluk in de liefde, hij trouwde 4 keer en kreeg slechts één kind.
De broers verlieten Cincinnati met hun jonge gezinnen en vestigden zich in Ottoville, Putnam County, Ohio. Ze staan ??allebei bekend als de eerste kolonisten van Ottoville. Ze kochten elk 80 acres land en begonnen naast elkaar te boeren. Johannes stierf kort daarna in 1856 en liet één mannelijk kind achter om zijn naam voort te zetten. Gerardus en Theresia woonden de rest van hun leven op hun boerderij en kregen veel kinderen. Hun enige overlevende zoon is John (overgrootvader van deze bron). Hij was de eerste marshall van de stad Ottoville, en werd zeer gerespecteerd. De boerderij bleef in onze familie tot 1940 toen John stierf en het landgoed werd verkocht. Op een gegeven moment werd er een extra 'f' toegevoegd aan Brandehof, waardoor het Brandehoff werd voor iedereen die afstamde van Gerardus, en bovendien werd de 'e' uit Brandehof geschrapt, waardoor het Brandhoff werd voor de nakomelingen van Johannes.
