Ben, die al jong weduwnaar werd, runde het Weesper uitgangscentrum De Roskam met zijn 5 dochters en 3 zonen.
Van halteplaats voor de postkoets, via eet drink en slaapplaats voor paard en reiziger ontwikkelde De Roskam zich tot Hotel Café Restaurant. De Roskam had ook een grote feestzaal waar menig huwelijksfeest is gehouden. Oorspronkelijk werd de feestzaal gebouwd door "Van Houten" als ontspanningsruimte voor het personeel. Naasr de feestzal was er in de tuin een muziektent onder lommerrijke bomen, alsmede een sociëteit met kegelbaan. Alle geheel van hout opgetrokken bouwwerken waren zeer luxueus ingericht en van alle gemakken voorzien.
