    Nadat hij in 896 tot keizer was gekroond in Rome, trok Arnulf naar Spoleto om daar met zijn tegenstander Lambert af te rekenen. Onderweg kreeg Arnulf een beroerte. Arnulf keerde terug naar Regensburg waar zijn toestand geleidelijk verslechterde.
    Begraven in de abdij Sankt Emmeram.
