Notes about Vsevolod I van Kiev Rurikides

Hij was de vierde en favoriete zoon van Jaroslav de Wijze. Om de wapenstilstand met het Byzantijnse Rijk in 1046 te verzegelen, huwde zijn vader hem met de dochter van keizer Constantijn IX Monomachos, Anastasia. Uit dit huwelijk werd 1 kind geboren: Vladimir Monomach. Na de dood van zijn vader in 1054, kreeg hij de steden Pereiaslav, Rostov, Soezdal en de gemeente Belozersk onder zijn hoede. Samen met zijn oudere broers, Izjaslav en Svjatoslav, vormde hij een soort triumviraat.

In 1067 stierf zijn Griekse vrouw Anastasia, waarna hij hertrouwde met een prinses. Hiermee kreeg hij 5 kinderen, waaronder een zoon, Rostislav Vsevolodovitsj, die verdronk in de Slag bij de Stugnarivier.

Na de dood van zijn broer Svjatoslav, zou Vsevolod op de troon komen te zitten, maar hij stond deze af aan zijn oudere broer Izjaslav. Toen die 2 jaar later stierf, werd Vsevolod grootvorst van Kiev.
